This goes back a number of year, March 25th 2008. I took my 6 year old autistic son to see Dr. Hibberd for an extraction. I dutifully filled in the paperwork that is handed to you upon arrival, on this paperwork I noted my sons condition and tendency to having anxiety attacks. My mistake was assuming someone somewhere in the office would have actually read the form they shove at you the moment you check in. After a challenging time getting my son to cooperate enough to allow for the procedure, the Doctor's recommendation "Can't you restrain him?! Try sitting on his legs!" I put one leg over my son and he freaked out at being restrained, launching him into a panic attack. The doctor's response was "Maybe mommy's too big to be sitting on you!". She turned to me and said I can't work with him like this; you need to take him to get sleep dentistry, this was a waste of time. Had I not been battling postpartum depression at that time, I would have sued her and demanded an apology, but I wasn’t strong enough at the time. I found the old claim form today and went straight to this website to share my experience. When my family dentist called to ask about the incident she said we should have “told her about his problems” (which WE DID), she just couldn’t be bothered to do her job and read the screening paper they asked us to fill him. All his conditions, medication s and concerns were listed on that form. Absolutely disgraceful and unprofessional behavior; she should be ashamed of herself. |
