I have been patient of this practice since it opened in the early 70s. John Thompson was always a reasonable and capable practitioner. He realized I, as a single mum, could not afford unnecessary procedures. When he and my favourite hygienist, Marg Lindsay, retired I was not treated as well.
In November of 2014 I went for my semiannual cleaning and checkup. The new dentist said I needed a crown replaced. After setting up the appointment I thought to inquire about the cost. Since the tooth was not bothering me and the price was to be $1700.00, I cancelled. In early February of 2015 I visited a dentist in another city and he said he doubted the need for replacement of the crown. He took a few X-rays and said it could be replaced for aesthetic reasons and he charged me $411.00. Subsequently I returned to Lake Bonavista Dental office for my checkup on 25 May of 2015. The hygienist appeared to not notice the new crown because she asked me when I planed to replace it. Then a dentist came in and she and the hygienist had a whispered conversation behind me. The few words I overheard were "insurance" and the location in my mouth of the tooth in question. Then the dentist took a look and asked the same question so, it would appear that she didn't notice the new crown. either For all this I was charged $474.00, part of which was for a dental examination in which the dentist couldn't even identify a new crown.
On 1 December of 2015 I wrote them a letter explaining this and that I shall no longer be using their services. Then have yet to reply. In view of my experience I would not recommend this office under any circumstances. |
